Road to the CBT: Master the "Golden Rules" of the Highway Code

Our pioneer community is growing fast! Over the last few days, we have officially welcomed registered drivers from 9 different states across Nigeria—spanning from our central hub in Lagos to Enugu, Delta, Kwara, Ondo, Osun, Akwa Ibom, Oyo, and beyond. If you are one of the trailblazing motorists who have already locked in their free profiles, congratulations—you are officially on the national grid!

Now that the Official FRSC National Highway Code is fully deployed and live on your participant dashboards, it is time to move from registration excitement into tactical preparation.

Remember, the Nigerian Drivers Challenge 2026 is strictly a sport of precision, safety intelligence, and mental discipline—not a car race. To help you clear the upcoming online Computer-Based Test (CBT) screening on Saturday, October 17th, here is your weekly breakdown of the core "Golden Rules" you must master tonight.

1. The Core Law of the Carriageway

In Nigeria, the foundational directive is simple but absolute: Always keep to the right side of the road unless you are overtaking another vehicle, turning left, or moving past a stationary obstruction. When navigating single lanes, dual carriageways, or expressways, maintaining strict lane discipline is your primary defense against highway collisions.

2. The 2-Second Rule (Your Distance Shield)

How close is too close? The Highway Code dictates that you must always maintain a minimum gap of two seconds between your vehicle and the car directly in front of you under ideal driving conditions.

  • The Wet-Weather Adjustment: If it is raining, misty, or the road surface is slippery, visibility drops and braking distances double. Under these conditions, you must instantly increase your gap to four seconds.

3. The M-S-M Routine

Before you turn the steering wheel, tap your brakes, or change lanes, you must execute the mandatory Mirror-Signal-Maneuver (M-S-M) routine:

  1. Mirror: Check your rearview and side mirrors to understand the exact position and speed of traffic behind you.

  2. Signal: Give a clear, unambiguous indicator or hand signal in plenty of time to warn other road users of your intention.

  3. Maneuver: Execute your movement smoothly once you are 100% certain the road is clear and it is safe to do so.

4. The Daily "Parade" (Vehicle Safety Inspection)

A truly professional driver never sits behind the wheel without inspecting their machine. The Highway Code outlines basic daily checks before putting any vehicle into use. Master the W-O-F-T check metric:

  • W - Water: Check the coolant level in your radiator and windscreen washer fluids.

  • O - Oil: Use the dipstick to check your engine oil level and inspect your brake fluid reservoir.

  • F - Fan Belt: Inspect the fan belt for proper tension, cuts, or frays.

  • T - Tyres: Scan all four tyres (and your spare!) for punctures, cuts, proper tread depth, and correct air inflation pressure.

Protect Your Test: Hard Anti-Cheat Warning

As our engineering team finalizes the backend server configurations for the October 17th national examination, remember that the testing portal is built with hardened client-side security. Please also prepare to write the test on either a desktop or laptop computer.

All copy-paste functions, right-clicks, and text highlighting are completely disabled. Our active Cursor Tracking Engine will monitor your browser focus. Attempting to open another tab or browser window to search for answers online will trigger an automated warning flag. On the 3rd flag, the portal will execute an automatic exam fail and instant script submission. Absolute mastery of the study modules on your dashboard is your only path to the top.
